We’re sorry if you missed our application window. Due to exceptionally high demand, our grant programmes often reach maximum capacity within hours of opening. Once our intake limit has been reached, applications close automatically and may do so without prior notice.
If you have already submitted an application, please do not contact us for progress updates. As a small charity managing applications from across the UK, responding to individual enquiries can delay the assessment process. Please be assured that we will contact you directly if we require any further information and when your application is being considered.

Before You Apply
Capstone Care Leavers Trust is a small charity with high demand for support. All aspects of the charity, including administration, communications, application processing, reference checks, trustee reporting, fundraising and applicant support, are managed by one member of staff covering the UK. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding.
Driving-related applications remain the most common reason for applications being declined. Please ensure you meet the published criteria before applying, as Trustees are unable to make exceptions.
If you have an urgent financial need, please speak with your Personal Adviser or Local Authority, and consider applying to larger organisations such as the Rees Foundation, Care Leavers Foundation or Become.
Important Information
We do NOT provide funding for:
- Living expenses
- Rent or accommodation costs
- Debt repayment
- Overseas travel
Please ensure you have the following details available:
- Driving applications: Employer contact details. Theory Test Certificate and Funding evidence in place to purchase a car soon including plan to cover running costs of a car i.e insurance/tax/fuel....
- Education applications: Tutor and course provider contact details
- ALL applications: Personal Adviser contact details
A written reference is an essential part of our assessment process. Applications cannot be presented to Trustees without the required reference, and applications with missing information will not be considered.
To avoid delays or possible rejection, please ensure all supporting information and contact details are available before submitting your application.

Information We Need
The questions we ask, help us make responsible decisions about how we use CCLT funds and the amount of grant we might give you. This means we need you to complete all sections of the application form as fully as you can.
It is important that you provide full details of income and benefits for yourself and anyone living with you, and all your weekly bills and spending.
By also telling us about your time in care, and including the details of two people who are in a position to confirm your circumstances, it will help The Trustees consider your application more quickly.
Who decides?
CCLT has three Trustees.
- Any two Trustees can authorise grants up to £2000
- All three Trustees must authorise awards over £2000
Trustees can consider awards of up to £3000 specifically in relation to Higher Education or professional course costs.
How Long Will It Take?
When submitting a completed online application, you should receive a confirmation message that it has been submitted.
We then aim to contact you within 6-8 weeks of applying, and give a decision as quickly as possible following that. It can take up to 12 weeks for a decision, depending on the purpose of the grant, your individual circumstances and the number of applications being processed and considered at the time.
