Receiving the Capstone Care Leavers Award was a privilege that has aided me greatly in pursuing my master’s degree, Endangered Species Recovery and Conservation. This award not only provided me with a range of equipment required for my course (e.g., walking boots, waterproof coat), but additionally allowed me to perform a range of in-field research projects across a range of weather conditions! Furthermore, Capstone provided me with an extensive number of textbooks that allowed me to thrive across my studies. I am someone who very much enjoys physical copies of books, where I can annotate key notes and scribble my own thoughts. Thus, having a range of textbooks provided to me is something that I am extremely grateful for.

This award has further enabled me to attend the famous conservation centre, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey.
This was an amazing experience, where I learnt vital conservation strategies surrounding the protection and captive management of a range of endangered species. I feel, any care leaver who is considering pursuing further education should not hold back due to limiting factors such as financial reasons. I implore individuals to seek out award schemes such as the Capstone Care Award, where their assistance in providing me with key resources has played a significant part in my ability to undertake a master’s degree. I have just submitted my final dissertation project and will be graduating this December. I look forward to what else the future holds.
Massive thank you to the trustee and everyone at Capstone Trust, I am truly grateful!
